Champions League: Chelsea drawn in Group C with Atlético
The 2017/2018 UEFA Champions League group stage draw was made Thursday evening in Monaco. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte must have groaned when his squad was drawn with Atlético Madrid, Roma, and Azerbaijani wonders Qarabağ. The Blues are currently bickering with Diego Costa over the La Liga side, and they certainly don’t want to face them twice this season while trying to repeat as English Premier League champions. Facing an Atlético side with Costa would just be rubbing salt into their wounds. Conte can breath a sigh of relief that his squad won’t have to face Barca or PSG and Neymar.
Will Diego Costa be heading to Atlético after all?
We reported last week that the Diego Costa to Atlético deal was done. It’s now starting to look like the deal may have been negotiated between the two clubs, but nothing will be resolved until Diego Costa settles his fines and standing with Chelsea. Now there are reports coming out that AC Milan is prepared to make an offer for the Brazilian striker. Milan is prepared to meet Chelsea’s £50,000,000 price tag, but Costa refuses to go anywhere other than Madrid. Chelsea could use this Milan offer to really leverage Atlético.
