Following a Michael Keane goal for Everton in the 33rd minute, Hajduk Split supporters began rushing towards the field and throwing objects at the Blues’ fans. Play was temporarily stopped, but as you can see in the above video, stewards were able to subdue the hooligans and keep the sides separated.
Hajduk Split had already been warned by UEFA in June due to racist chanting from supporters during their Europa League qualifying draw with Danish side Brøndby IF. The club was served with a ~$50,000 fine, and they were made to play in an empty stadium during Brøndby’s visit to Split.
Everton went on to win 2-0, and should expect yet another stadium ban for Hajduk Split when they make their visit next week. The Blues can advance to the group stages with a win, a draw, or a loss of no more than one goal.
