The Google search dictionary thing that pops up when you google a word defines “hot take” thusly:
- a piece of commentary, typically produced quickly in response to a recent event, whose primary purpose is to attract attention.“his hot take on the latest column”
The operative phrase in that definition is, “typically produced quickly in response to a recent event.” FYI, my personal definition of “recent event” is incredibly egocentric. An event’s relevance begins when I become aware of its existence. It doesn’t matter if the subject I decide to write about is 5 minutes or 10 weeks old (or imaginary), I promise that I will not let research and facts & figures get in the way of my takes.
My name is Luke McKay, and I am a former accountant from Huntington, WV currently living in Columbus, OH. I have a BBA from Marshall University in Accounting. During my time at Marshall, I would estimate that I wrote approx. 10 total pages (college-ruled, but no writing on the back) of prose. That lack of journalism experience has not stopped me from paying $10.00 a year for a domain name & a WordPress, however. I have absolutely no qualms regarding sharing my takes with the world.
